Terre Colorate Floor Tile

This handmade Finish is achieved by mixing manganese oxide into the clay. The result is a darker color that tends to vary according to the percentage of oxide mixed into the clay: brown to black. The tone tends to be opaque with a very natural shading effect.

The protagonist of the magnificent classical tradition of architecture, from ancient Roman times to this day, several buildings have been built with manually molded terracotta tiles. At Manetti, this prestigious and rare artisan procedure is effected by skilled workmen who model the clay with their bare hands using single wooden molds obtained from splendid originals of the 17th century.

For centuries the constitutive quality of clay belonging to the geologic formations around the city of Impruneta, located only about ten kilometers from Florence, has been very well-known and appreciated. It has given rise to the renowned “Cotto Imprunetino” brand, a compact, solid, resistant, enduring, natural material with exceptional red shades.

The creation of products – such as amphorae, pots, roof tiles (Coppi-tegole), and decorative and artistic elements – was made possible not only by the quality of raw materials but also by the skill of artisans along with the profound mastery of firing technique.

In this century-old tradition, you find the Manetti Gusmano & Figli company, active in Ferrone for eight generations, focused on producing “Cotto imprunetino” flooring tiles in all machine-made and handmade versions.
